Things to do this month...
Bay Area Bonsai Society
**************MEETINGS************************** August 14 6-8:30pm Annual Styling Competition & Potluck snacks @ Plantscapers in Luxemburg. For the August meeting we will be having our annual styling competition. The event will take place at Plantscapers (E2051 Luxemburg Rd) on Wednesday August 14th starting at 6pm. If possible please plan to arrive at 5:45 so we have a little extra time to draw for teams. If you have tools please bring to the meeting (tools are not necessary to participate in the competition). This is a great opportunity to learn about bonsai design on the fly in a group setting. We will plan to allot 1 hour and 30 minutes for styling and then a winner will be selected. This is one of the most enjoyable meetings of the year with friendly banter taking place between the teams. I hope you can attend.
September -14 9:30 am - 4:30 pm (Saturday) Plantscapers Styling workshop - Ron from Milwaukee/Madison Club @ Plantscapers in Luxemburg. Potluck Lunch.
The September meeting will take place at Plantscapers (E2051 Luxemburg Rd, Luxemburg WI) from 9:30am-4:30pm on Saturday September 14th. Ron Fortmann, the President of the Madison Bonsai club, will be back for a styling workshop. Ron will work with members of the club on design and styling of their trees during this workshop. My recommendation would be for each member to bring no more than 2 trees (one to work on and style in the morning and one in the afternoon). You should also plan to bring wire with you to the workshop. As he did last year Ron will have wire, tools, soil, pots, trees, and other bonsai supplies available for purchase. We will plan to have a potluck for lunch and members should plan to bring a dish to pass.
September -28 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Fall Family Fest. Our club will also have a booth at the Fall Family Festival at the Green Bay Botanical Garden on Saturday September 28th. We will be setting up at 8:30am and last year we ended at approximately 4:30. This is a great opportunity to share our hobby and to also attract individuals to our beginners workshop. If you are able to attend please let Chris know. It is nice if we can get individuals to volunteer for 2 hour shifts. If you can attend please also let Chris know if you plan to bring a tree to display and the species. Last year we had about 8 trees on display.
October - 9, 7 pm-9 pm Club Auction @ Green Bay Botanical Gardens. Great opportunity to get new to you books, pot, tree, tools and more and also help the club raise funds for future programming. cash or check. Auction instructions at the bottom of this page.
